Use tool to detect if a content is generated by AI

A handy tool for Medium writers

As AI tools gain footing among the literary folks, a good number of writers are now calling upon these mechanical muses to aid in their craft.

Different content creation platforms have varying stances when it comes to AI-assisted writing, but they all share a common thread: none of them are too keen on content purely spun by AI.

For my daily writing chores, I employ a tool known as `CopyLeaks`. It’s a real detective when it comes to figuring out if a piece of content was born from the cold, unfeeling brain of an AI.

One can easily track down `CopyLeaks` by punching a few keywords into Google, which leads you straight to its official portal.

The site is a breeze to navigate. Once you open it, a click on `My Scans` reveals the historical scan results of the user currently logged in.

Consider the highlighted bit in the image below. It suggests that the document `Sample-report.pdf` contains about 43% of content suspected to be AI-generated, with another 44% that matches exactly with content floating around the Internet.

Double-clicking on `Sample-report.pdf` will open up a detailed view of the scan. For instance, text highlighted in purple is tagged by `CopyLeaks` as likely AI-generated. The area to the right, `Matching Text Results`, displays the original internet sources of the matched content found within the PDF.

Setting up a new scan is no sweat either. You just hit the `New Scans` button, select the medium of content to be scanned — say `Text` — paste the intended text into the webpage, and click `Scan`.

Before you set the scan in motion, you might want to adjust some settings. For example, if scanning for AI content, you might also wish to activate `Plagiarism Detection` (see figure below). If this is turned on, then keeping `Online Sources` active is essential for a…
